Sharkari Karmachari Hospital is a general hospital. The Government of Bangladesh. Converted the Railway Hospital located at Fulbaria of Dhaka city as “The Sarkari Karmachari Hospital” on 8th November/ 1978 to provide health care services for the officers & staffs working in the govt. organizations. But for about 14 lacs of government employee of Bangladesh government and their dependents, the 50 bedded hospital was inadequate to fulfill the demands. There was no hospital for the Govt. officials’ with specialized treatment facility in the Dhaka City. That is why they are deprived of getting modern medical treatment and facilities. Moreover, it is very troublesome and time-consuming to get proper medicare services. The govt. officials belong to low paid and fixed income group, they cannot afford treatment cost in the private clinics and hospitals. In consideration of the above fact Govt. has decided to establish a separate modern hospital at Fulbaria in Dhaka city. As per the decision of the cabinet ministry and health ministry Govt. has decided to establish a 300-bed modernized hospital. Subsequently it was decided that instead of proposed 300 bed it will be 150- bedded hospital at the 1st phase with all modern diagnostic facilities, Indoor, Outdoor, Pathology, Medicine Surgery, Gynae/ Obs, Orthopedic, Pediatrics, Eye, Skin & VD ENT, Cardiology, ICU Casualty and other emergency services which will facilitate specialized treatment for Govt. employees of all category.
